Purpose: Update on the humanitarian situation in December 2012.
Content: Emergency Relief Coordinator calls for unhindered and sustained access to provide much needed assistance to all vulnerable people across the country. The Government reports that the total estimated number of Internally Displaced persons in Rakhine reached 115,000 people, including over 36,000 newly displaced in late October. Up to 75,000 people are estimated to have been displaced by conflict in Kachin and northern Shan States which started in June 2011.
Purpose: To map the opportunities and risks that various types of international aid interventions may have in the country.
Content: Crucial developments are taking place in Burma/Myanmar’s political landscape. Generation change, the change of the nominal political system, and the recovery from a major natural disaster can lead to many directions. As an external actor the international community may further add to political tensions through their intervening policies.
